It would be helpful if you know your height or have taken your weight recently. Although not necessary, blood chemistry tests can be helpful to determine goals. If available, any food tracking apps and journals would be useful.
The specialist will ask a series of questions to get an idea of your diet, lifestyle, and history. Then, any challenges or roadblocks to reaching your optimal nutrition will be discussed, as well as some possible solutions. Goals will then be set together with the specialist for your next visit.
The follow-up will be focusing on the progress from your goals set in the previous session, as well as any objective markers of progress. Any issues faced while trying to achieve these goals can be discussed here. Goals will be adjusted as needed to reach the next milestone. The time between follow up sessions will be set according to your goals and needs.
Depending on your personal situation, you may or may not need a personalized meal plan. Usually, we would start with educating the client and making sure they understand certain nutrition concepts that are applicable to them so that they could begin to eat healthier without following a specific meal plan. However, meal plans are helpful for people with conditions or goals that require accurate planning.
Each meal plan is personalized and specific to the individual, so as of the moment, we are not yet providing prepared meal plans.
Food logging and accountability work as a bridge between sessions. For food logging, you will take a snapshot of all the food you eat each day so that there is a concrete basis for your next session, which can be used to help determine what is working or what is not working for you. The accountability works the same way, except that the specialist can already give you feedback about the meals so you can make the tweaks between sessions.
Even if you are generally healthy, we can help uncover any underlying unhealthy eating patterns which can lead to deficiencies or excess of certain nutrients, with corresponding effects on your health. We also offer webinars that cover more specific topics to help deepen your understanding of certain nutrition concepts.
You do not need a companion if you are able to explain your food preferences and comprehend instructions by yourself. However, if you are in a situation where someone else is preparing and serving your meals, it might be helpful to bring that person to the consultation.
Most clients will not require supplements, but if found necessary the dietitian may recommend some supplements for your specific need.
If you are given a meal plan, you must follow it for the duration of the plan. Any changes or recommendations to continue with the plan will then be assessed during the follow up.
This will be done through the food logging/accountability, or follow-up sessions.
We encourage clients to take note of any changes in behavior, preferences, lifestyle or food intake, so that the necessary adjustments can be discussed in the next session.
